Earthquakes Hit Around The Globe : An Old But New Concern Amid COVID-19
As the whole world fights COVID-19, Earthquake tremors have raised concerns. The world has not yet emerged from Coronavirus and a new tragedy has knocked.
Earthquake tremors were felt in Indian national capital Delhi and NCR region on 11 April 2020 evening amidst the havoc of Coronavirus. After the tremors, people came out of their homes. Along with Delhi, earthquake tremors were felt in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida region. Earthquake tremors were felt for about 5 seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the Delhi-UP border, while its intensity was measured to be 3.5 on the Richter scale.
Earthquake tremors were felt once again in the Indian capital Delhi on 13th April. The earthquake was of low intensity this time. The magnitude of the earthquake on the Richter scale was measured to be 2.7. The epicenter of the earthquake was Delhi itself. After the earthquake was felt, people came out of their homes as a precautionary measure. No news of the loss of life or property from any place was reported.
On 14th April, tremors of magnitude 6 were felt in the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand. On 15th April, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was felt in Bolivar, Colombia. Moreover Bay Islands, Honduras accounted for the tremor of intensity 6 on 16th April.
In Japan, the Bonin Islands recorded tremors of intensity 6.6 and Iwate recorded an earthquake of intensity 6.3 on 18th and 19th April respectively.
On 22nd April i.e. Earth Day, tremors were felt in Los Angeles, USA. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was about 1 mile in the View Park-Windsor Hills area. No reports of injuries or damage were reported. It occurred near a densely populated zone.
